As shown below, to import the data from PowerFactory a DGS XML format file , the model must be first exported using 'DGS_Export_Definitions_5_to_ePH.dz'.

This configuration file is provided in demo PHASOR-17. Note that the DGS version in Export Version must be V5.00 as illustrated below.

To use the generated XML file, PowerFactory must be selected from Input file format in the Network data tab of the Solver mask.in the DGS-XML format. The export is configured using a dedicated export definition (or in PowerFactory terminology, a “Variable Section”). Before the actual model can be exported from PowerFactory, the Export Definition must be first imported into the Data Manager:

Notes

  • ePHASORSIM only supports has currently the following limitations for the import of PowerFactory models:

    • Only positive sequence simulation

    for PowerFactory
    • and

    exclusively based on its  chapter.During the process of exporting *.XML format in PowerFactory by using 'DGS_Export_Definitions_5_to_ePH.dz', verify
    • section are supported.

    • Only a subset of the PowerFactory components are supported by the import. Please refer to the Specs for DGS File Format for a full list.

    • Only dynamic controllers from the PSS/E compatible library (v2022 or 2019) are supported. DIgSILENT, CGMES, IEEE or other category of controllers are not supported.

  • This guide has been tested with PowerFactory 2019 SP1 and 2023.

1. Import of “Export Definition”

  1. Open the Data Manager.

  2. Right-click on the Project -> “Import”.

  3. Select “

    nameOPAL-RT UDB Export Definition.pfd
    ” -> “Open”.

    1. For PowerFactory versions 2019 and earlier use

      View file
      nameOPAL-RT UDB Export Definition v19.pfd

  4. Optionally select a new destination path via “New Path” in your Data Manager:

    • As this Export Definition is equal for all projects, it can be imported outside of your PowerFactory project.

  5. Click “OK” to import the export definition

  6. Afterwards a new folder should appear in the project structure

2. Export of Model

  1. Activate the project in the Data Manager.

  2. Open project in PowerFactory main window.

  3. Run a positive sequence AC Load Flow.

  1. Select “File” -> “Export” -> “DGS Format...”

  2. Configure the following settings in the DGS-Export dialog:

    • General tab:

      • DGS Version: V7.00

      • Format: XML File

      • Encoding: UTF-8 (with BOM) (not an option in PowerFactory 2019)

      • File Name: as you wish (e.g. Your Model.xml)

      • Variable Sets: OPAL-RT UDB Export Definition (from step 1) (only in 2019 version)

    • Selection tab (not an option in PowerFactory 2019):

      • Variable Sets: OPAL-RT UDB Export Definition (from step 1) (only in 2021 and higher versions)

      • Base Selection: All elements of the active project

  3. Start export by clicking on “Execute”.

Note

Verify and ensure there is absolutely no error or warning reported in PowerFactory's Output window regarding this process.
Otherwise the generated *.

XML

xml format may not be compatible with

requirements as defined in

OPAL-RT’s Unified Database (UDB).

3. ePHASORSIM Solver Configuration

  1. To use the generated XML file, PowerFactory must be selected from Input file format in the Network data tab of the Solver mask.
