Understanding the Panel

The main panel is shown in Figure 3

This panel will allow the user to control the whole circuit as well as to retrieve the desired values and observe the plotted signals.

At startup all switches are turned off.

The different parts of the panel will be explained in the sections that follows.

Circuit and parameters display

The complete simulated circuit is visible from the main panel, along with two LED indicators that show which source is powering the circuit. A green LED indicates that a specific power source is active. When the LED next to the AC source is illuminated, it means the AC source is powering the circuit and the battery is being charged. Conversely, when the LED next to the battery is on, it signifies that the AC source is off (e.g., during a power outage) and the battery is providing power to the load. Additionally, the battery capacity is displayed directly next to the battery icon for easy monitoring.

Multiple parameters are measured in the circuit and displayed as shown in Figure 5. An explanation of each parameter is provided in Table 3.

Inputs and control parameters

The switch shown in Figure 6 allows the user to simulate whether the AC source is active or if there is a power outage. When the switch is on, the AC source is activated.

The source and control parameters can be modified as shown in Figure 7. The user can adjust the AC source voltage, specify the DC voltage reference, and set the power factor reference of the rectifier. Additionally, the modulation index reference (ma_ref) of the inverter can be modified by the user.

Explanation of Data Scopes

To observe the results and output of the system, there are two display tabs that show multiple scopes. Below, you will find a description of each scope and the scope trigger, where applicable.

This display is used to study the variation of the load current and the fundamental voltage during the switching phase between the two modes of UPS operation: when the AC source is providing power to the load and when the battery is supplying power to the load.

Note 1: These scopes will only display results when the trigger switch is on and after switching between the modes of operation.

Note 2: An LED indicator next to the trigger shows if the data can be saved, as there is a waiting time between recordings before a new test can be recorded. When the LED is green, it means the scopes can record values.

The same results shown in these two scopes are recorded in an OPREC file that can be found as follows:

1- In the repertory of the HYPERSIM model click on Lab_5_hyp

2- Click on Recordings

3- Search for the OPREC file as follows

Note that every time a new simulation is done a new file is created with the date of the simulation.

4- Double click on the file and ScopeView will open you can now select the desired signals and plot them by pressing on play

Help Tab

When clicking on “Help tab”, the panel in Figure 14 is displayed.
In this panel you can see an image of the simulated circuit as well as the circuit parameters.
