Saturable Transformer - OP4510 - OP5707 - SPS

Description

This model illustrates the use of the saturable transformer and eHS solver to compute the transformer flux during energization of a transformer. When SW01 is closed, voltage is applied to the transformer. Voltages before and after the SW01 can be observed, as well as voltage on the secondary of the transformer. Transformer flux is observed in the CPU model by integrating the secondary voltage of the transformer. Distortion in the sinusoidal wave form shows the saturation effect. By closing SW01 a different time, transformer flux, and its saturation will vary.

Requirements

The RT-LAB, SimPowerSystem, and eFPGASIM toolboxes must be installed on the host and target computers in order to run this example model properly. Please refer to the product documentation for details on version compatibility.

The eHS solver requires an FPGA-based hardware board. This board will be configured with the attached binary file automatically when the model is loaded in the RT-LAB interface. This model uses a OP4510 as its active carrier board.

Setup and Connections

This model does not require any IOs, as it is more a demonstrator of the expected results

Procedure

eHS model:

The eHS model is used to configure the eHS solver, but also the saturable transformer module. In the console, SW01 can change state by flipping the Manual switch block.

RT-Lab model:

SM_Controller_eHS_IOs:

The SM_Controller_eHS_IOs subsystem is used to send the configuration to the eHS solver, and to allow the user to interact with the model. Voltage on the secondary side of the transformer is integrated before being sent to console subsystem.

SC_Console:

The SC_Console subsystem is used to control SW01, and the amplitude of the voltage source.

It also allows to monitor results at the CPU time-step using Acq 1.

SW01 is closed at 0.033 second. The yellow curve shows the transformer flux saturating. The purple curve shows when SW01 is closed.
