OP8E02 Description
The OP8E02 module converts four (4) current input signals into ±16V voltage signals that can be measured with an OP5340 Analog input module.
The channels are individually configurable for one of the following ranges : 4-20mA, ±25mA, ±50mA, ±75mA, and ±100mA, allowing greater accuracy.
Features
Type-E module
Converts 4 current input signals into ±16V voltage signals
Configurable for five different ranges: 4-20 mA, ±25mA, ±50mA, ±75mA, and ±100mA
Input range individually configurable via dip-switches

Channel description
The current is converted to voltage using the voltage reading at the terminal when the current to measure flows through the resistor.
Vout=Iin*R
Depending on the maximum current value expected, a DIP switch lets you select the resistor required to adjust the output voltage, in order to reach the maximum range (±16V) that can be measured by the OP5340.
For example, if the module is set for ±100mA (158.5 ohms) mode and the signal to measure is only ±25mA, the module output will be a maximum of ±3.9V. Choosing the ±25mA mode to ensure that the output range will be ±15.85V, which yields a better resolution.
It may not be possible to reach the desired range, depending on the compliance voltage supplied by the current source. For example, if the current is 20mA and the source supplies is only 5V, the maximum reading will never be reached if the module is in the ±25mA mode,
since 20mA in 634 ohms would require a voltage of 12V, which the source cannot supply. It is therefore necessary in that case to select the 4-20mA mode.
The table below gives the resistance and compliance voltage for each mode:
MODE | RESISTOR EQUIVALENT | COMPLIANCE VOLTAGE REQUIRED |
---|---|---|
mA | OHMS | VOLT |
4-20mA | 249 | 4.98 |
25mA | 634 | 15.85 |
50mA | 317 | 15.85 |
75mA | 211.33 | 15.84975 |
100mA | 158.5 | 15.85 |
DIP Switch Settings
The DIP switches are accessible on the top of the module:
Voltage | Switch Positions | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Switch 1 | Switch 2 | Switch 3 | Switch 4 | Switch 5 | |
±25 mA | On | Off | Off | Off | Off |
±50 mA | On | On | Off | Off | Off |
±75 mA | On | On | On | Off | Off |
±100 mA | On | On | On | On | Off |
Follower | Off | Off | Off | Off | Off |
4@20 mA | Off | Off | Off | Off | On |
Note: When the switch is in Follower mode, it acts as a simple throughput (voltage to voltage), rather than conversion mode (current to voltage).
