HIL2GO-410 - OP4810-IO FPGA Processor and I/O Expansion Unit Hardware Description
Page Contents
General Overview
The OP4810-IO is an I/O expansion unit that includes the top-of-the-line AMD Versal™ Prime adaptative SoC line of compute engines (FPGA). It is designed to add powerful FPGA compute capabilities and plenty of additional and fast I/Os to OPAL-RT’s real-time HIL simulators like the OP5025XG part of this HIL2GO bundle. It has up to 128 fast I/O channels with signal conditioning, 6 Rx and 6 Tx RS422 channels (or low-speed fiber-optic channels), and 16 high-speed communication ports (SFPs).
The OP4810-IO contains the FPGA processor necessary to achieve real-time simulations and all the inputs and outputs to connect your external hardware in the loop to develop, test, and validate your projects.
Unit Information
OP4810-IO FPGA processor and I/O expansion unit specifications are described in the OP4810-IO user manual.
NOTE: Only the RS422 connector kit (OP5969-1) is part of this HIL2GO bundle, not the fiber-optic connector kit
(OP5969-2).
The only available network port is port #1, the lower port located at the front of the unit.
This port connects to the Ethernet port LAN2 (enp38s0), at the back of the OP5025XG simulator, as explained on this page.
It is used to flash the bitstream from the OP5025XG to the FPGA of the OP4810-IO.
The IP address of this port is fixed (static) and is displayed on the LCD screen.
The IP address should read 192.168.3.5.
LCD screenRead details and usage here (#8 and #9: ID page).
The chassis ID is displayed on the LCD screen. See here (#8 and #9: ID page).
To change the index number, see these instructions.
I/O Module Configuration
The OP4810-IO can accept two (2) type H signal conditioning modules, also known as I/O modules.
The system in the HIL2GO-410 bundle comes with two (2) I/O modules installed.
Both modules are the same and consist of OP48H20 standard I/O, type H modules.
Each module is identified as SLOT 1 and SLOT 2.
Each module has four (4) DB37M ports identified P1 to P4.
The system also comes with 6 TX and 6 RX RS422 digital inputs/outputs linked to DB9F connectors (SLOT 3).
Installed I/O modules | |
Slot number | Model, name, and short description |
1 | OP48H20 - Standard I/O type H Module - 16 DI, 16 DO, 8 AI, and 12 or 24 AO |

Users should adjust the power supply level (through the DB37 connector) to get the proper voltage level at the DOUT.
Please refer to these pages for the procedure and the DOUT specifications:Use a proper damping circuit (a serial resistor capacitor circuit tied to the GND as close as possible to the user Device Under Test) to minimize ringing and over/undershoot according to the connection length (from Digital Output to user device under test). The following parameters are a good starting point for the RC values: R=150 Ω, C=100 pF. Tuning necessary, according to application parameters.
