OPAL-RT provides the capability to add an OPC UA server to a real-time simulation, where the user can use an OPC UA client to monitor any kind of simulation points and is also able to control the simulation by writing data. Our OPC UA driver also offers the possibility of providing the server with an external timestamp, as opposed to the server receiving its timestamp directly from the system it is running on. For example, the user can use precision GPS timestamping to the server according to the epoch time it received through GPS. |

Product Selection Guide
OPC UA and OPC DA applications require software license OP3131, which comes with 50 data points. Visit this page more information on data points.
If additional data points are required, then they may be added via product OP3050.
For applications requiring precision timestamping, a time synchronization module may be added to the simulator.

OPC UA
OPC UA can be added to real-time simulators without the need for additional hardware.
However, since real-time simulators come with at least one available Ethernet port, if additional physical Ethernet ports are required on the real-time simulator, these can be added via a kit.
Note that for applications requiring many Ethernet ports,the OP4510 and OP4512 simulators are not recommended.
OPC DA (classic)
OPC DA applications require the use of an external gateway to convert OPC UA to OPC DA.
For applications where the OPAL-RT simulator acts as the server, product OP3134 is required.
For applications, where the OPAL-RT simulator acts as the client, product OP3133 is required.
