Part 2 - Single-phase Diode Bridge Rectifier - Inductive Load
Page Content
Exercise 3: Varying Inductive Load
In the panel, choose under Pre-Selected: Single Phase: Varying Inductive Load without smoothing capacitor.
Now, the resistance (R) is in series with an inductance (L).
Figure 13: Single-Phase Diode Bridge Rectifier Panel with an Inductive Load (R=25 ohms, L=40 mH)
Default Parameters
- AC Source Voltage: Ve= 120 V
- Frequency: 60 Hz
- R= 25 Ω and L= 40 mH
Complete the following table with the many values of inductance (L).
L (H) | 40m | 100m | 1 |
---|---|---|---|
The maximum peak value of the current (A) | |||
The minimum peak value of the current (A) | |||

Table 8: Effect of Varying Inductive Load
- Calculate the average current.
- What is the effect of the inductance on the load current?
- What is the effect of increasing the inductance on the THD of the AC-source current?
