Introduction to the Schematic Editor

The Schematic Editor is a powerful, intuitive graphic tool for building power electronics circuit diagrams, or models, in HYPERSIM and RT-LAB when using eHS, the FPGA-based power electronics solver. It provides a graphical editor and customizable block libraries, for modeling and simulating power electronic systems. It is integrated with OPAL-RT’s HYPERSIM and RT-LAB products, enabling you to combine models developed in these environments.

You'll find many powerful features here, including:

  • Drag and drop component assembly
  • I/O assignation to models
  • Complex model assembly using subsystems
  • More focus on power electronics and for models running on FPGA at a sub-micro second time step
  • Enables integration of power electronics models in HYPERSIM and RT-LAB

The purpose of this Schematic Editor Online Help is to explain how to edit power electronics schematics. Whether you're deeply familiar with this process or are just starting out, this documentation should be of assistance to you.

The documentation is divided into four sections.

  • Getting Started: If you're looking for a place to start, with an interface tour and a simple guided block schematic model construction, you'll find it in Getting Started.
  • Concepts: If you'd like to get a better sense of the main concepts required to understand before using the software, use the Concepts section as your reference guide.
  • The Block Library, where the various components are arranged, introduced and described.
  • Tasks for Learning Assembly and Control: If you'd like more of a hands-on implementation of the Schematic Editor, have a prior background in electrical engineering, or want to perform some of the main tasks, this section will be of help.
