Available connections

Front panel

Power-on/off button

Press this button to turn on the amplifier. Incorporates a power status LED that is green when OP8110 is powered-on.

To power down the amplifier, please hold the power button until the “CFG” LED turns off (approx. 2.5 sec) and then release it.

In the unlikely event that this shutdown method is unsuccessful, a hard reset is needed and it can be achieved in 2 ways:

  1. Shut down the amplifier auxiliary power (12VDC) by shutting down the 120V/220V inlet power (unplug the power cords or switch off client circuit breaker/switch).

  2. Press and hold the power button until power down is achieved (approx. 6 sec) - (not recommended! - only if requested by OPAL-RT support).

Ethernet port

Ethernet port used to interface directly with the OP8110 from a computer through TCP/IP. Must be used to update the bitstream of the amplifier.

Mini-USB port

Serial communication port used to interface with the OP8110 as an alternative when Ethernet is not available.

SFP ports

Optical 2 Gbps SFP ports for real-time control of the OP8110. Two ports are available:

  • Leftmost port: used for debug purposes

  • Rightmost port: used as the primary real-time control interface. Refer to SFP Communication Protocol section below for more details.

LEDs

Status LEDs, refer to LEDs section below for more details.

Rear panel

12 Auxiliary supply connector

Supply input for the control circuitry of the OP8110.

Outputs

High-voltage outputs of the amplifier. Each OP8110 group has 3 outputs, each of which has its dedicated neutral point. Refer to OP8110 Power Stage for more details.

DC inputs

500 VDC inputs for the OP8110's power stages. Each OP8110 group has its isolated DC input, refer to OP8110 Power Stage for more details.

GND screw

Must be connected to electrical ground for safety purposes.

Remote sense connectors

Remote sense input connectors which can be used to compensate for voltage drop of the test setup - reserved for future implementation.

Optical synchronization connectors

Optical links (Rx and Tx) to synchronize switching between OP8110 units to get better performance.

OP8110s can be daisy-chained (Rx of a unit connected to Tx of another unit) in any order as long as one unit in the chain has its Rx unconnected. The OP8110s will automatically configure their synchronization interfaces (master/slave) to match with the connected cables, no user configuration is required.

CAUTION
The OP8100's synchronization cables should neither be connected nor removed during amplifier operation.
Doing so may result in both damage to the amplifier and voiding of the warranty.

SFP Communication Protocol

The implemented SFP communication protocol allows an external unit (such as an OPAL-RT simulation platform) to send voltage or current reference setpoints to the OP8110's embedded controller while also allowing measurements to be fed back from the OP8110 to the external unit. This protocol is summarized below. Please contact OPAL-RT's Technical Support for detailed specifications of the protocol if required.

Data Transmitted by the OP8110

The following data is transmitted in real-time by the OP8110 on the SFP link:

  • Amplifier statuses (bit flags)

  • Measured real-time output voltage for every output (16 bit)

  • Measured real-time output current for every output (16 bit)

Data Received by the OP8110

The OP8110 expects the following data in real-time on the SFP link:

  • Amplifier control bits (bit flags)

  • Real-time voltage reference (when regulating the output voltage) for every output (16 bit)

  • Real-time current reference (when regulating the output current) for every output (16 bit)

  • No labels
