Using IPMI to Remotely Manage a Target

IPMI remote access of a target is optional. It is used in special occasions for advanced configuration, troubleshooting or monitoring. Most of the users don’t need to use IPMI remote access.

IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) allows remote management of a system, even if it's powered off or unresponsive. Key benefits include:

  • Remote Access: Monitor and control hardware without needing physical access.

  • System Monitoring: Check system health, temperatures, and hardware status.

  • Remote Power Management: Power on/off, reset, or reboot the system remotely.

  • Console Access: Access the system’s console for troubleshooting, OS installation, or configuration, regardless of its state.

IPMI enhances efficiency by enabling remote troubleshooting and maintenance, reducing the need for on-site visits.
