OP5143-4 - PCIe SFP Interface Module

Page Content

Description

The OP5143-4 is a PCIe 4 Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) network interfaces designed to communicate:

  1. With RTDS NovaCor™, EGSTON or Spitzenberger & Spies amplifier using a specific firmware

  2. With OPAL-RT devices using OPAL-RT’s MuSE Link (Multi-System Expansion) communication protocol

  3. With other external components using Xilinx Aurora communication protocol

It comes in 4 variants:

  • 3 variants with firmware (bitstream) compatible with ONE specific amplifier.

    • OP5143-4-K1: RTDS NovaCor™ amplifiers

    • OP5143-4-K2: EGSTON amplifiers

    • OP5143-4-K3: Spitzenberger & Spies amplifiers

  • 1 variant without amplifier firmware used to communicate with OPAL-RT devices or other external devices using MuSE/Aurora communication protocol

The I/O card plugs in 1 PCIe slot and consists of 2 assembled boards:

  • An FPGA board to execute the firmware

  • A 4 SFP ports board

The card uses 1 PCIe slot, but takes the place of 2 physical I/O slots.

Only one OP5143-4 module can be installed in a single simulator.
For variants with amplifier communication, only one SFP port can be used to communicate with one amplifier. It’s not possible to have more than one amplifier connected to the OP5143-4 card.

Hardware Platform Compatibility

All variants of the OP5143-4 card can in installed in these hardware platforms:

Use Cases

Add SFP Communication Capabilities to an OP5033XG Real-time Simulator

The OP5143-4 has been designed to be included in an OP5033XG real-time simulator to communicate with OPAL-RT Real-time simulators or FPGA Processor and I/O expansion units using OPAL-RT’s MuSE Link (Multi-System Expansion) communication protocol (license included).

It can also be used to communicate with other devices using the Aurora communication protocol (licenses sold separately).

The OP5143-4 can be installed in another compatible hardware platform if needed.

SFP Interface Module OP5143-4-K1/K2/K3 can also be installed in an OP5033XG real-time simulator if required.

Add Amplifier Communication to Compatible OPAL-RT’s Real-time Simulators

The OP5143-4 with an amplifier bitstream (K1, K2 or K3 variants) can be installed in any compatible hardware platform.

They are used solely for this use.

  • Power indicator.

  • 4 SFP ports and status LEDs for each channel (LED 0 = channel 0):

    • Blinking green: an SFP module is plugged into the port and the bitstream is using Aurora for this channel

    • Continuous green: an SFP module is plugged into the port and the bitstream is not using Aurora for this channel

    • Blinking red: rx_loss is 1

    • Continuous red: tx_fault is 1 (these are SFP status signals)

    • OFF: no module plugged into the port and no Aurora present in the bitstream for this channel
