How to Install the CMDE Add-On on an Offline System

The standard installation process for the CMDE Add-On and its software dependencies requires an internet connection. If your development machine, deployment target, or both systems are offline, follow these steps to install the necessary software.

Installation on an Offline Development Machine

  1. Install NI VeriStand

    • On an internet-connected computer, download the NI VeriStand installer from the NI website.

      • Refer to the Development Machine Software Requirements to confirm compatibility between versions of NI VeriStand and the CMDE Add-On.

      • Select the option to include driver software.

      • Use the INSTALL OFFLINE option.

    • Transfer the downloaded ISO file to the local drive of the offline development machine.

    • Open the ISO file and run Install.exe to launch the installer.

      • When prompted to select the software to install, keep the default options.

      • All items listed on the Additional Items page are not required by the CMDE Add-On.

  1. Gather CMDE Add-On Installers

    • Gather the following installation files:

      • CMDE Add-On installer (opal-rt-cell-monitoring-device-emulation-addon-<vs_ver>_<cmde_ver>_windows_x64.nipkg)

        • Contact OPAL-RT Support to request the installer for your versions of the CMDE Add-On and VeriStand.

        • If the CMDE Add-On is already installed on an internet-connected computer, a copy of the installer can be found in the NI Package Manager cache directory: C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\NI Package Manager\packages.

      • OPAL-RT End User License Agreement Feed (OPAL-RT EULA Feed.zip)

        • A copy of the EULA feed is attached here:

  1. Add EULA Feed to NI Package Manager

    • Transfer the OPAL-RT EULA Feed to the local drive of the offline development machine.

    • Unzip OPAL-RT EULA Feed.zip.

    • In the NI Package Manager, click the Settings wheel and navigate to Feeds >> Add.

    • In the Feed URI field, browse to OPAL-RT EULA Feed\Packages.

    • Provide a Feed Name, such as "OPAL-RT EULA."

    • Click Add.

  1. Install CMDE Add-On

    • Transfer the CMDE Add-On installer to the local drive of the offline development machine.

    • Double-click the .nipkg file to run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation process.

Configuring an Offline Deployment Target

The NI VeriStand Engine and drivers must be installed to the real time target before a project can be deployed to it. Refer to Deployment Target for additional details about software and system requirements.

  1. Download Target Software

  1. Install Target Software on Offline Development Machine

    • Transfer the downloaded ISO file to the local drive of the offline development machine.

    • Open the ISO file and run Install.exe to launch the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

  2. Install Software to Deployment Target

    • Once NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support is installed to the offline development machine, proceed with the target software installation as though both systems were online:

      • Use NI MAX on the development machine to install the Base System Image and software to the target.

      • The version of VeriStand installed to the target must match the version used on the development machine.

      • See NI’s installation procedure, Installing Software on NI Linux Real-Time PXI Controllers, for full instructions.

      • Refer to the Software Packages section of the Deployment Target page for the list of required software to install.
