Extending an Imported Model with the Excel Template

ePHASORSIM provides no schematic / diagram editor to modify its network models. Hence all changes must be applied to the input file formats like the native Excel file, PowerFactory DGS-XML or PSS/E RAW & DYR files. In some cases such modifications in the source format are cumbersome, or even not possible if there is no direct import mapping of the components in the third party format and ePHASORSIM’s native library.

To counter this, the ePHASORSIM Excel template can be used to augment the imported model. In most cases the Excel file is only used to provide a list of incoming and outgoing pins.

However, it can also be used to define additional components which will be merged into the model imported from a third party data format.

Bus References

In order to attach components defined in the Excel Template to buses of the imported model, a certain naming convention of the busses must be followed:

PowerFactory

Bus naming schema: <normalized_loc_name>_<for_name>

Where:

  • <normalized_loc_name> corresponds to the loc_name attribute from PowerFactory with special characters (/, <space>, .) replaced by an underscore (_).

  • <for_name> corresponds to the “Foreign Name” attribute which uniquely identifies each component in PowerFactory.

Be advised that the bus names used here are different from the naming convention used in “Pins” sheet to observe signals.

To find out how to configure I/O Pins Sheet and observe bus signals, please refer to I/O Pins for PowerFactory Data or I/O Pins for PSS/E Data.

Auto-assigned for_name / FID

Please note that the auto-assigned for_name / FID identifiers by PowerFactory are not stable (automatically incremented, in random order) and will change with every export of the DGS-XML file.

For a stable bus identifier, it is recommended to manually set the for_name / Foreign Name attribute in PowerFactory.

Example

The following Excel template augments a PowerFactory model with an additional Current Injector component:

Limitations

In the current state the Excel template can only used to add additional components, busses to an imported model.

It is currently not possible to change parameters or remove imported components.
