OP4810-IO/OP4815-IO - Installation

Page Content

Table-top Use

Make sure to provide all adequate and necessary ventilation (at least 10 cm or 4 inches) at the front (cooling air intake) and the rear (cooling air exhaust) of the unit.

Rack Mount

The OP48xx-IO FPGA processor and expansion unit can be installed directly in a 19'' rack.
Normally, the rack mount brackets and handles are assembled to the chassis.

Hardware List

The hardware for the rack mount brackets and handles are provided in a plastic bag.

  • 2x 2U Rack Mount Brackets

  • 2x Pull Handles Black Anodized Aluminum 8-32 x 3"

  • 4x T00-6800 Black SS Phillips Flat Head Screws 8-32 X ½" long

  • 8x T00-1402 Black, SS, Phillips Flat Head Screws 6-32 x 5/16" long

Assembling

Follow these simple steps to install the brackets and the handles.
For each side:

  • Remove the two (2) top front screws.

    • Put the screws away, they will be replaced with longer ones.

  • Assemble each rack mount bracket using 4 screws.

    • Do not use the screws you removed in the previous steps, they are too short.

    • 4 screws per bracket, 6-32 x 5/16" flat head, Phillips, OPAL-RT P/N T00-1402

  • Assemble the handle to the bracket using two (2) screws.

  • 2 screws per handle, 8-32 x ½" flat head, Phillips, OPAL-RT P/N T00-6800.

Connecting the Cables

These are the basic cabling instructions for your OP4810-IO and OP4815-IO. Use the cables provided to connect your devices, as instructed.

  • Connect power cord to the unit and to an appropriate power source (outlet).

  • Connect DB37 cables from OP4810-IO/OP4815-IO to external devices (motors, controllers, etc.).

  • Connect the I/O expansion cables from OP4810-IO/OP4815-IO to external devices, if applicable.

    • Cables used depends on I/O expansion option.

Make sure that all cables are properly connected before powering up.
Make sure to provide all adequate and necessary ventilation.
Power up the unit using the main power switch.

Connecting the Ground Screw

You must connect a grounding cable from the OP4810-IO/OP4815-IO ground screw to the rack to ensure that the device terminates securely in a ground.
Proper grounding helps prevent electric shocks, protects the simulator from voltage spikes (from a variety of causes, including lightening strikes), and provides increased immunity from EMI by lowering noise levels and emissions.

  • Select a flat braided grounding strap of adequate length (as short as possible to provide the best protection), with ring terminals on each end.

  • Attach one ring terminal to the ground screw on the OP4810-IO/OP4815-IO.

  • Attach the other ring terminal to the rack using a nut and lock washer.

Make sure that the power switch at the rear of the unit is easily accessible for emergency shutdown.
