OpCtrl Analog Sensor Module

This controller block (OpCtrl) accesses an Opal-RT Analog SensorModule Board (OP6225) or ASM for short. This module features 16 analog output channels with 12-bit resolution and externally provided voltage references.

The OpCtrl blocks and the OpFcn blocks are designed in order to separate board access and data treatment to and from the boards. The OpCtrlblock attempts to detect an OP6225 Analog Sensor Module board connected to an OP5142 card via a PCI-E link. Once the hardware is detected, the OpCtrl block relays the data to and from theOP6225 board to the OpFcn functionality blocks.

OpFcn blocks are linked to an OpCtrl block through the controller name specified in both the OpFcn and OpCtrl blocks. Since the number and type of available functionalities on each board are different, each OpCtrl block driver registers a set of available functionalities that represent the different components of the board it represents. The ASM supports 16 OpFcn Digital Out Gated functionalities and one OpFcnStatusRegister functionality. Please refer to the documentation of the OpFcn blocks for more details on these functionalities.

Note: The OP6225 board was designed for use in an Opal-RT TestDrivesimulator but it can be used as a standalone module also. Please refer to the characteristics and limitations section below for important information regarding the synchronization of the model when the OP6225is standalone.

The following table lists the functionalities available on the module. It also specifies the functionality numbers that must be passed to the functionality blocks to use each channel. Note that the StatusRegister functionality requires no functionality number.

Theory of operation

The analog output channels of the ASM may be described as software-controlled tension dividers to which the user provides the high and low voltage references externally. The Vals input of the OpFcn Digital Out Gated block is a vector with a width equal to the number of selected channels and is used to control the tension divider for each channel. The dividers have a 12 bits resolution and must be provided with a value in the 0 to 1 range, where:

0The output is equal to the low reference.
Anywhere between 0 and 1The output increases proportionally between the voltage references.
1The output is equal to the high reference.

The Faults output is a vector with a width equal to the number of selected channels and is used to report errors for each of them. It may take the following values:

0No errors.
1Either an overcurrent or thermal shutdown occurred. This means the output channel has been deactivated and an acknowledge must occur before the channel is reactivated.

Controller NameThe controller name uniquely specified in an OpCtrl block's parameter enables the binding between a specific controller (that has functionalities)and its generic functionalities.
High and Low Reference Selection

Available for rev.2ASM boards only.

This parameter specifies for each analog output channel if common or individual voltage reference is to be used. The common reference refers to the COM_REF_H(high reference) and COM_REF_L(low reference) input pins which are shared by all channels. The individual references, on the other hand, are channel specific and refer to the REF_HX andREF_LX input pins where X represents the channel number.

SampleTime (s)

This parameter allows the user to specify the sample time for this block, and its associated TestDrive board, in seconds. The default value is 0, which specifies a continuous sample time (note that the sample time is borrowed from the separated subsystem).

Some rules must be respected:

  • A controller block and its related functionality blocks must share the same sample time.

This block has no inputs.

This block has no outputs.

Characteristics and Limitations

The synchronization source of the model will be automatically assigned during the load of the model. Any TestDrive card equipped with an OP5142 board can act as a master or a slave.
