Browsing Circuits and Subsystems

In the Schematic Editor, a Subsystem is used to group/nest components into a single block in order to simplify schematics.

To navigate between subsystems:

  • From the Model Browser, select and expand the uppermost folder (in the example below, named MyModel).

  • Note how the parent has three layers of nested subsystems: child1, child2 and child3.
  • As a result of this, the user knows that MyModel has a Subsystem block that contains child1.
  • Likewise, child1 has a subsystem block that contains child2, etc.

Another way to access the Model Browser:

  • Using the icon located above the diagram, in the Navigation Bar, users can access the Model Browser as well.

Navigating using the Navigation Bar:

  • The Navigation Bar allows easy navigation within the model, displaying the path from the top model to the currently opened subsystem.
  • Clicking the right-facing arrow icon opens a dropdown displaying the sibling subsystems of a subsystem in the path.
  • To jump back to a previous subsystem, click its name in the Navigation Bar.
  • The Navigation Bar stores the visited path in order to make it easier to jump back into a subsystem further down the hierarchy.
  • (It can be seen in the example below: the visited path corresponds to the greyed-out names in the Navigation Bar.)

To navigate further down the hierarchy of subsystems:

  • Uncollapse a folder for every further level down that you want to investigate.
  • You are simply now working one level further inside the nested hierarchy of subsystems.
  • Picture this as a hierarchy of folders that extends up and down, and that you can navigate in or interconnect, as though you were zooming in and out of subsystem levels and schematics.
