Generate Power-Flow Results from CYME ver. 7.2

ePHASORSIM can run dynamic simulation of three-phase unbalanced networks imported from CYME 7.x. However, in current version, the power-flow support for three phase component is limited to the components discussed in Power-Flow. In this way, the network data could be optionally accompanied by a power-flow solution, calculated and exported by CYME and saved as an Excel workbook (must be an *.xls file), and placed in the same folder as the network data. When no power-flow data is available, ePHASORSIM will initialize the components using their rated voltages.

In the following, the procedure to calculate power-flow and export the result in excel format is discussed in details for CYME ver. 7.2. However, the approach might be slightly different for other versions of CYME 7.x. Please consult CYME support for further information.

There are two ways to calculate the power-flow solution in CYME.

  • Either select Load Flow… from the Analysis menu as shown in Figure below,
  • or use the command button in the toolbar as shown in Figure below.

Analysis menu method

Toolbar method

Ensure the settings in the Load Flow Analysis dialog match those presented in Figure showing 'Load Flow Analysis'.

Be careful to select ‘As Defined’ from the drop-down menus in the Load and Generation Scaling Factors and Voltage and Frequency Sensitivity Load Model sections.

Click Run to calculate the load-flow solution.

Load Flow settings

The load-flow solution can now be exported to an Excel workbook. To do this, select Analysis from the Report menu, as presented in Figure below. This will open the window as in the figure showing 'Analysis Reports'.

Report selection

Setup a blank report

The first time an analysis is exported, a blank report will need to be created. On successive times, this template report can be used as a starting point.

To output the load-flow data in a format recognized by ePHASORSIM, begin by creating a new report. For a new report, click the ‘Add New Report’ icon in the ‘Report Selection’ section of the ‘Analysis Reports’ dialog. Use Figure showing 'Report Properties' as guidance for configuring the newly opened ‘Report Properties’ dialog. Give the report a name, such as ‘ephload’, and select ‘User Defined’ in the ‘Category’ drop-down. In case the ‘User Defined’ item is missing, simply add the string manually. Choose ‘Microsoft Excel (*.xls)’ as the Output format.

Choose ‘All Sections’ from the drop-down in the ‘Select Items section’. Add the following keywords, in order, to the ‘Select Keywords section’: NodeId, KVLLBase, VLNA, VLNB, VLNC, PH-AngleA, PH-AngleB, PH-AngleC, GenMinKVAR, GenMaxKVAR, GenKW, GenKVA, CapId, SpotNumber, SectionId.

Key words selection for report

Press OK to create the new template for power-flow data. Select this newly created template in the Analysis Reports dialog, ensure an appropriate name is set, then press OK once again to export the data to the Excel workbook as shown in Figure below.
