HIL2GO-100 - OP4512 Real-time Simulator Hardware Description

Page Content

General Overview

The OP4512 is a complete simulation system operating with an Intel Xeon 4-core CPU and an AMD Kintex™-7 FPGA. It is designed to be used as a desktop or shelf top simulator. In its standard configuration, the lower part of the chassis contains a target computer that can work as a standalone computer.

It contains a powerful target computer and a flexible, high-speed Front-End Processor and a signal conditioning stage. The design makes it easy to use with DB37, and DB9 standard connectors. The system also offers 6 input/output LVDS links that can be used in RS422.

I/O Module Configuration

The OP4512 can accept four (4) standard OPAL-RT mezzanine-type signal conditioning modules, commonly known as I/O modules.
The system in this HIL2GO bundle comes with the following three (3) I/O modules installed.
The I/O location for each mezzanine-type module linked to DB37 connectors is identified by its module number, formed by a group number (1 to 2) and a section letter (A and B).

6 TX and 6 RX RS422 digital inputs/outputs linked to DB9 connectors and connected to group 3 are also provided.

  • Users should adjust the power supply level (through the DB37 connector) to get the proper high voltage level at the DOUT.
Please refer to this OPAL-RT knowledge base article: How to power the different DB37 boards for digital outputs.
See also user documentation for I/O module OP5369 32-Channel Digital IO Board.

  • Use a proper damping circuit (a serial resistor capacitor circuit tied to the GND as close as possible to the user Device Under Test) to minimize ringing and over/undershoot according to the connection length (from Digital Output to user device under test). The following parameters are a good starting point for the RC values: R=150 Ω, C=100 pF. Tuning necessary, according to application parameters.
