Average
Description
The Average functionality of the OPAL-RT Board interface, also known as TSB Input, is used to return the average value during a timestep of the digital input channels of an OP5353 module installed in the simulator.
The average of the digital input is reported for each model timestep. This value is a floating-point between 0 and 1. It represents the time the digital input was high during the previous model timestep divided by the duration of this timestep. The last digital input value of this timestep is also returned to RT-LAB.
Usage
Once the bitstream configuration file has been parsed, the location of the digital input modules becomes visible to the user. The channels of the modules are grouped into bunches of 8. By clicking on each group of 8, the user has access to the configurable options of the group.
Channel Group Configuration
Enable
Checking this box enables the acquisition of data for the channels in the group once the simulation has started, provided that the type of functionality is set to Average (see below for more detail).
Clicking Enable also adds the connection points for each of the 8 channels' Average and Last value in the Configuration panel of RT-LAB. This means that if the user wishes to monitor these two characteristics of the digital signals, connections must be made between points in the model (in the form of OpInput blocks) and the input connectable points.
In order to achieve that, the connection points have to be dragged and dropped onto an appropriate OpInput block in the Configuration panel of the RT-LAB project.
Connections with LabView panels are also possible.
The Last value connection point may not be present based on the RT-XSG implementation. If it's not present, it means the bitstream does not support it.
For experienced RT-XSG users: This connection point is only present if the status of the Time On Mean (TOM) block in RT-XSG is enabled and correctly configured. If so, in the firmware .opal file the field hasStatus should be 1 for the corresponding slot.
Digital Type
This field is non-editable. This means that the eight channels in the current group can only operate with the functionality described in the grayed-out field. For receiving TSB inputs, verify that the field displays Average.
Input
The current functionality has one Average and one Last value scalar data point for each channel.
The inputs can take the following values:
Average:
This value is in [0 1] interval based on the average of the digital input during the last timestep. Assuming that the digital signal can only have pulse width equal to or greater than , the precision of the Average datapoint is .
Last value:
This value can be 0 or 1 based on the last state of the digital input at the end of the previous step.
Characteristics and limitations
The Average functionality works properly if the timestep of the model is under 160 .
