OpNI60xE PWM Out
Block
Mask
Description
The National Instruments ESeries (or NI-60xE) cards features analog inputs, analog outputs, digital I/O lines and counters. This block is used to control one of the two counters to generate a pulse train with variable frequency and duty cycle.
Both the active signal level and resolution can be configured.
This block supports a list of PXI and PCI cards. For more card-specific information, please refer to NI documentation.
Parameters
Bus Type | Select the bus type (PCI or PXI) of the board in this list. |
---|---|
Card Type | Select the card model in this list. |
Card index | Index of the card on the bus (for example, if only one card is present in the computer, enter "0" in the corresponding field). |
Counter | Each NI60xE board has two counters. Select the counter to be used (0 or 1) |
Clock source | Sets the counting clock of the counter to either20MHz or 100kHz. Clock selection has a direct impact on resolution. |
Active level | Indicates if the low or high level of the signal is to be measured. |
Frequency unit | Specifies the unit of the frequency input (Hzor seconds) |
Duty unit | Specifies the unit off the duty input, which can be expressed either in seconds or as a ratio of the active time over the period. Ex: 0.25 means the signal is active one-fourth of the period. |
Minimum frequency | This parameter indicates the minimum frequency to be generated by the block. A 32-bits counter can generate a period of several minutes, should a small value appear on the frequency inport, the counter will start generating such a cycle which might be a nuisance for any application. This parameter provides protection by setting the smallest possible frequency to be generated. Still, if the value you provide here is smaller than the physical limit of the card (imposed by the clock source resolution and the 24-bit counter), the "Minimum frequency" will be reset to the latest. |
Reset on pause | Specifies if signal generation is to be interrupted when the model is paused. |
Synchronize | see definition. |
Inputs
Freq | This input is used to specify the frequency, either in Hz or seconds (see parameters), of the generated signal. |
---|---|
Duty | Fraction of the period during the signal is active. Can be expressed either in seconds or as a ratio of the active time over the period. Ex: 0.25 means the signal is active one fourth of the period. |
Outputs
Error: If the block cannot generate a PWM waveform with the specified "frequency" and "duty", it will output en error.
Following is a list of errors the block may output.
Error Number | Description |
---|---|
-1 | Frequency value is less than the minimum accepted. |
-2 | Duty cycle is out of range. |
-3 | Active time is a negative value. |
-4 | The active time is longer than the frequency allows. |
-5 | Frequency and duty cycle are set to zero.. |
Characteristics and Limitations
Connections Requirements
The generated signal is available at the OUT pin of the selected counter.
