BESS - Objective
This document is intended to teach the students about the real-time operation principles of a battery energy storage system (BESS).
Students will be introduced to two operation modes of the BESS, namely grid forming (islanded operation mode) and grid following (grid connected).
Students will also learn the impact of varying power and voltage references for grid connected and islanded operation modes on the BESS steady-state operation, output waveforms, and generation-load balance.
