Step 4: Creating a New Schematic

See Basic Schematic Editing for a detailed description of the schematics GUI.

The first step to running a simulation is to create a schematic. To do so, in File > Options, click New Default Document.

  1. A Windows Explorer window will open with the default path: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\HYPERSIM.

  2. You can either browse to a custom directory or save your schematic in the default location.

  3. Once saved, the main modeling and simulation interface will appear.

Important Notes:

  • Avoid saving your project in directories managed by OneDrive or other cloud-syncing services, as this can lead to file integrity, versioning, or accessibility issues.

  • Avoid paths with spaces or special characters when choosing a custom directory, as this can cause compatibility problems with certain tools and workflows.

  • Tip: Prefer short repository file paths to avoid errors caused by excessively long file paths, which can exceed system limitations and disrupt your workflow.

The tab pane provides access to various menus: File, Home, Options, View, Design and HYPERSIM®.

The Schematics window is where schematics are displayed. This includes the Parts libraries, with previews of the blocks.

The Signal Routing and Target Inputs and Outputs options contain connection options for your model. All other blocks are either power system network components or control blocks. The library can be docked and undocked by clicking the small arrow next to Parts.

This window also features a view of each open design.
