Permission Requirements

In the following sections, the following symbols are used:

  • %HYPERSIM_DIR%: The path to the HYPERSIM installation.

    • By default, this value is C:\OPAL-RT\HYPERSIM\hypersim_version; where hypersim_version is the folder of the current version, for example, "hypersim_2021.3.1.o187".

  • %USERPROFILE%: The user directory. By default, this value is C:\Users\userName; where userName is the Windows user name, for example, "JohnSmith"

    • Note 1: HYPERSIM currently does not support spaces in this path.

    • Note 2: In some rare cases, user names with capital letters may trigger errors when writing to the target code directory. If such an issue occurs, please use the Target Manager Diagnostic to get additional information.

Installing HYPERSIM on Host

HYPERSIM installation requires administrator permissions.

The installation of solely HYPERSIM does not create any environment variables or registry keys. However, the additional accompanying toolboxes may create environment variables and registry keys.

Running HYPERSIM on Host

Diagnostic tool is provided in %HYPERSIM_DIR%. This tool helps to validate that your setup has all the required permissions.

To run HYPERSIM, users do not need administrator privileges or an Internet connection.

HYPERSIM does, however, need the following permission:

  • read/execute permissions in %HYPERSIM_DIR%.

  • Most HYPERSIM processes start from this location, the main ones being:

The executables above may start any executable in %HYPERSIM_DIR%. They need to be authorized through the firewall.

Read/write/execute permission in %USERPROFILE%

  • %USERPROFILE%/My Documents/HYPERSIM is the default location suggested for creating HYPERSIM models.

    • Make sure any selected location or pathname is not very long--otherwise, the generated files may exceed Windows path length limitations.

  • Logs and user preferences are stored in %USERPROFILE%/HYPERSIM.

  • The localhost target default code generation is in the %USERPROFILE%/HYPERSIM folder. A process with the name of the model starts from this location.

Running a simulation, on localhost or a target, may use ports 17511 through 17599 for interaction with I/O Interfaces.

Samba

Note that Samba is no longer required from 2022.1.0

This step is only required for versions 2021.3 and earlier. To communicate with a Linux target, users must ensure their SAMBA permissions are sufficient. Specifically, they need the option below enabled. If this option is missing, the Diagnostic_Tool can provide a solution for installing it.

UDP ports 137, 138 and TCP ports 139 and 445 must be freed for the successful running of HYPERSIM, as Windows 10 disables them by default in certain configurations (e.g. guest access). Please contact your IT department in case of issues with Samba2.

HYPERSIM uses UDP protocol on ports 137-138 and TCP ports 139, 445 to exchange information between the localhost and the target.
