Cabling and Connections
Page Content
To operate a PELab unit several analog, digital, power, and safety connections must be made. In the following, the required connections for running a PELab unit in the PHIL mode are presented.
Earth and Power Supply Connections
Figure 1 shows the two connections which are essential for any PELab unit. The first one on the left side is the earth, which needs to be properly connected to the test bench ground for safety purposes. The second one on the right is the power supply of the measurements, protection systems, interface boards, and the internal embedded controller.
Digital and Analog Connections With HIL Simulator and RCP
Each PELab unit provides two groups of digital and analog inputs/outputs for real-time simulation and rapid control prototyping. As depicted in figure 6, there are two sets of digital and analog signals in two “RCP” and “HIL|OPAL-RT” sectors for rapid control prototyping and hardware in the loop simulation.
Since OP8666 supports DB37 connectors, it is compatible with the HIL|OPAL-RT sector as well.
Rapid control prototyping is also possible, using the OPAL-RT simulators as the developed control algorithm can be implemented on the simulator.
Pin mapping of the digital and analog inputs and outputs in both “RCP” and “HIL|OPAL-RT” sectors are provided in figure 7 and the following tables.
