Hazard and Safety Measures
All PELab units are developed for operating in laboratories for research purposes where the environmental conditions are well controlled and protected.
The following conditions apply to a PELab unit before and while operating:
Not allowed to operate in explosive and flammable atmosphere
Operating temperature range is 0° C to 40° C
Operating humidity is 90% with no condensation allowed
Do not operate the unit if any sign of damage has been detected
Do not operate the unit if any liquid, chemical, or other material has penetrated inside
Not allowed for critical applications, such as life-support device and systems
Avoid opening the transparent cover or touching the internal circuits while the unit is powered up or operating
Before powering the unit or operating it, make sure that the unit is properly grounded. Details of grounding are presented in the Cabling and Connections section
Never touch the powered unit without protection equipment if the earth connection is disconnected
Fuses must be replaced by a qualified person as they are located inside the unit
Never block the inlet and exhaust paths of the airflow on sides and rear panel. Respect a 25 mm clearance around the unit
Stop operating the unit if the cooling system is not properly functioning
Always make sure that the connected wires can tolerate the nominal current and voltage of the unit to avoid overheating and arc flash
Never connect a DC source directly to the DC-links. It will cause inrush current and may damage the DC-link capacitors permanently. If required, make sure that the current of the DC supply is controlled and limited
Never connect the power modules directly to an AC source or the grid. It will cause inrush current and may damage the DC-link permanently. Using the pre-charge relay and resistor is mandatory
In the case of inductive loads, always use soft shut down, as the back EMF can damage the unit
Avoid placing heavy objects on the transparent cover
Avoid moving the unit while some wires or probes connected
Do not apply pressure on the knobs, buttons, switches, and connectors
For PHIL tests, always make sure that the mode selection knob is located on “HIL <> PWR”, “RCP <> PWR”, or “uC <> PWR”
Before operating the unit make sure that the protection buttons are enabled unless the unit is well protected by the control algorithm implemented on RCP, HIL simulator, or the internal embedded controller
