OpNI6602 Encoder
Block
Mask
Description
This block programs one counter/timer of a National Instruments NI6602 card in position measurement mode and returns the current encoder value.
The counter is programmed in Encoder X1 mode. The Index channel of the external signal connected to the counter is supposed to be high when Channel A and Channel B are low.
The counter is reset during model initialization. During execution, it can also reset on the index pulse, or the reset can be controlled from an inport of the block.
Parameters
Bus Type | This pop-up menu enables the user to select the bus type of the target computer where the NI6602 card is installed. The options are PCI or PXI. |
---|---|
PCI index | Enter the PCI index (see definition)of the card on the PCI (or PXI) bus. |
Counter | Specify the counter to which gate pin the input signal is connected. |
Clock Source | Three clock sources are available: 100 KHz, 20 MHz and 80MHz. This selection has a direct impact on the timing precision of the measurement. |
Encoder Reset | This parameter allows choosing if the counter will be reset when the index pulse is detected, or when an edge is detected at the inport of the block. |
Synchronize | see definition. |
Inputs
Rst | This inport appears only if the Encoder Reset parameter is set to 'On inport edge'.The reset of the counter occurs when the Rst inport goes from 0 to1 or from 1 to 0. |

Outputs
Freq | Returns the current value of the encoder. |

Characteristics and Limitations
Connections Requirements
Connect the channel A signal to the Source pin of the counter, the channel B signal to the UpDown/Aux pin, and the Index (channel Z) signal to the Gate pin of the counter.
