Configuring a Setup for Your Simulation

To add connections between the model and the analog and digital I/Os of the simulator, a Simulator Setup must be configured. This setup defines the type of I/O interface a Simulator provides, as well as the available hardware resources. 

Users can access the Simulator Setup modal in order to create, delete, and edit setups. When a Simulator Setup is active, users can connect inputs and outputs.

Configure hardware and firmware for your simulation

• Open the Simulator Setup modal, either by clicking on the bottom-left button found in the work area or navigating to Simulate > Simulator Setup.

• A local setup is already accessible in these settings as it is automatically created for each model.

• By clicking the + card below this setup, a new setup is created.

• You are prompted to select hardware for the setup. This hardware can be edited in the future.

Once created, the general information on the new setup is displayed on the right side of the model. Information about the FPGA Firmware is also displayed (once firmware is selected for this setup).

• In order to select firmware, click the Firmware row under FPGA Firmware.

• This displays the Firmware options available to the chosen hardware.

• Select the firmware that suits the needs of your simulation. The setup is updated with your selection. This can also be edited in the future.

• Once the firmware has been selected, I/O connections can be added to the model.

Firmware Information:

• If multiple revisions of the selected firmware version are available, revision options will appear and be selectable in a drop-down in the Revision category at the bottom. 

• Release notes are also available to be read from this view.

• To view more information on the available firmware versions, import or delete versions, view the Firmware Manager

In the example above, the user reads the release notes before selected the firmware version they want to use. They then view the available revisions by selecting the drop-down.

The Firmware Manager view can be accessed by navigating to Simulate > Firmware Manager or by clicking the  button that is visible on the Firmware view of the Simulator Setup

eHS License Class

The eHS solver comes in different core flavors depending on its performance:

• x16

• x32

• x64

• x128

Based on your OPAL-RT license, you are authorized to use a certain number of eHS solver cores. More details

This value is the cumulative cost of all cores defined in your model.

While setting up your configuration, please indicate the type you wish to use based on your OPAL-RT license in order to adequately fit the eHS solver to your firmware.

Edit the hardware or firmware of an existing setup

• Open the Simulator Setup modal.

• Hover over the icon of the simulator to be edited. An Edit icon appears. Click the icon.

• You are prompted with the available hardware. Click the icon corresponding to the new hardware to be used.

• If your model has connections, you are asked to select a new firmware as well, so that your connections can be transferred.

  • The suggested firmware corresponds to the available firmware for the hardware selected at the previous step.

• Select a new firmware in the table.

• Note that a pop-up appears if you are about to lose connections that cannot be mapped to the new firmware selection, and you have the option to cancel the swap.

Select a new setup for use in your model

• Open the Simulator Setup modal.

• Click the Use this Setup button in the card of the new setup to be used in your model.

Delete a setup

• Open the Simulator Setup modal.

• Hover over the card of the setup to be deleted. A Delete icon appears in the header of the card. Note that a setup in use cannot be deleted.

• Click the icon to delete the setup.
