Multiphase Fault

On this page:

The multiphase fault can represent phase-to-ground fault (single-phase, double-phase, three-phase) and phase-to-phase fault (double-phase, three-phase). The fault is modelled with two impedances connected to a virtual fault node (see the figure).

Impedances from phases a, b, and c are connected (as selected) to the fault point via an impedance Zf = Rf + j Xf. The fault node is connected (if required) to ground via an impedance Zg = Rg + j Xg. In the Multiphase Fault Excel tab, there are columns for a declaration of the location that the fault is applied to.

The corresponding impedance value from the declared location to the fault point and the impedance value from the fault point to the ground are needed to be specified.

The user can leave the unused buses empty. Filling of the fault buses (i.e. column 1-3) should be done from left to right. For example, if Bus2 is filled, Bus1 may not be left empty.
