IEC 62056 Master

The IEC 62056 communication protocol is not supported natively in HYPERSIM. A gateway is used to establish the communication with the IEC 62056 slave using DNP3 master on the simulator side and DNP3 slave on the gateway side. One or multiple IEC 62056 slaves (which are typically smart meters) can report analog and digital measurements to the simulator through the gateway. The gateway will receive data from the IEC 62046 slave(s) and retransmit this data to the simulator using DNP3.

The equipment used to perform the protocol conversion is the SMP 4/DP gateway made by Cooper Industries (now Eaton). The equipment comes with a configuration software (SMP Manager) that is used to configure protocols involved in the communication chain.

Documentation from the gateway manufacturer can be found here.

When purchasing this communication protocol, a complete FAT documentation is provided to explain in detail how to configure the gateway with the DNP3 interface.

Communications protocols can be configured in the I/O Interface Configuration tool that can be opened from HYPERSIM Ribbon Options.

For more information on the general use of the I/O Interface Configuration, see also I/O Interfaces.
